+OLD CS1
I picked up a 1581 on everyone's favorite auction site. It was sold as working several years ago when put into storage. Of course, it did not work when I got it. After reading a few posts about what happens to old 1581 drives I was inspired to grease the rails. Thus I disassembled it. This is what I found. Yes. A screw. Right through the fecken cable!! Plus, while the Amiga DD drive (FB-354) is a compatible assembly, I am almost certain the assembly in this drive is not the original as I have never seen one with the yellow drive activity LED attached. Ah, well. I fixed the cable, put some lithium grease on the rails, and voila! A working JiffyDOS 1581. PS: Rate my thumb.
carlsson
A friend of mine really has a hard time with pictures showing fingers or even hands, without rest of the body in the picture. She is probably glad she didn't get to see your thumb. Anyway, good fix!
