polyex
Have a 99/4a that is having some problems with the FCTN key. The key sort of works, sort of not. If you press really hard it works, otherwise , not. I took a look at the little metal fingers and compared it to a key that is working properly. The FCTN fingers are not "even" some are set back a little from the others. Do they all have to touch at the "same time"? When I press down they all seem to be touching the other side. It appears they are supposed to be interwoven together and are separate when not being pressed. I have tried cleaning with some alcohol and gave a slight nudge , but I don't want to muck too much with it, as they seem delicate. Any suggestions? +mizapf
I had a similar problem which was caused by bad soldering points. After decades, the solder seems to lose contact, and when you push hard, you may be able to bridge that tiny gap.
iKarith
Try a little contact cleaner sprayed into the key. Failing that, resolder it. Failing that, find someone with a parts machine and get them to send you a key.
Omega-TI
Please be careful with some of those cleaners. Some of them have been known to fuse/melt plastic.
