+Atarius Maximus
I was looking through some ebay autions today and noticed, on closer inspection, that the 2600 on this original box has the thick sides and rounded curves of the heavy sixer, but only has 4 switches. Was one of these ever made, or is this possibly just a picture of a prototype? AM
devils advocate
Probably an airbrushed picture of a sixer, to save the cost of a new photo shoot.

Atari Rescue Group
I just found a 2600A with that same box recently. The box (from 1980) has that picture on it and it says "Model No. CX-2600A on the front. The bottom piece of the console has the thin sheet of black plastic covering up the port-plug spaces. The tan-colored instruction manual for the system has a drawing of the 4-switch top on the heavy bottom as well. It looks brand-spanking new. I didn't even have to give it a dusting like usual. But there isn't any hint of a serial number sticker on the console or the box.
