cowdog360
Just a quick question here. How long can the Lynx II stay turned on while idle on AC? I swear I've had some that stay on nearly forever, and some that shut off after an hour or so. I know the Lynx I is different than the Lynx II in that regard. Any ideas? Thanks! cowdog360
I'm actually wondering if this is a game/software issue. APB seems to shut off after an hour or two of idle time. I'm doing comparisons right now with two Lynx IIs and the diagnostic cartridge. So far they've both been on AC for about 1 hour 30 minutes. Any ideas if certain games shut the system down after too much idle time?
Level42
[AC connected] is fixed to +5V through a 100K resistor on Lynx II so it doesn't actually know if AC is connected or not.... So if it turns off, there has to be a software timer. Edited August 19, 2016 by Level42
cowdog360
Just verified. With the Lynx diagnostic cart, I had it running for 3.5 hours on two identically modded Lynx II's. Then I booted Warbirds and left it on the title screen. Both turned off after an hour. APB does the same thing. So it has to be a game thing. Level42
It couldn't be anything else really With the LTC2950 you could bring back the Power off after 4 minutes I guess....I don't think Atari changed the chipset between Lynx I and II..... Level42
I just figured I could actually run this test on my Lynx I now too because I have the AC connected and Power On signals "disabled" (for now)..... I don't have APB and Warbirds on cartridge but I'll run them from the SD card. Edited August 21, 2016 by Level42
Level42
Hey Cowdog, ran the test. Used Warbirds from SD card and set a timer. I measured Power on (inverted) after about 1 hour and 15 minutes and it was low, so yes, the game tried to turn the Lynx off....

Level42
Something interesting I noticed: Loderunner will not turn off the Lynx I after 4 minutes when idle on batteries.........so.....either there is some counter being reset in Loderunner or.....all the "official" games had the 4 minute timer built in....
