gilsaluki
Ok. Somewhat confused. I know there was a 2600 and 5200 title called Realsports Tennis. I have searched around the net and game reviewers call the 8-bit version Realsports Tennis as well. The cart number they refer to is 8042, I believe is the number. However the packaging Atarimania and even the reviewer displays simply says, "Tennis". No Realsports moniker attached to the title. Am I missing something? Is their a rare XE version called, Realsports Tennis AND an old brown label Tennis as well? Or, are they really the same game. Again, I cannot find a box representing Realsports Tennis, anywhere. I know their IS a Realsports Football. Enlighten me.
+orpheuswaking
RX8042 is Realsports Tennis, the just didn't put Realsports on the label. they did the same with football. take a look at the pictures here http://orph.atarinet.com/gallery/main.php?cmd=imageview&var1=Atari+8bit%2Fa8+Carts%2FAlternate+Labels.jpg Also this ad, http://www.atarimania.com/catalogues/hi_res/cat214001.jpg you will see it's listed as realsports tennis and matches the cart number Edited October 9, 2016 by orpheuswaking
gilsaluki
Thanks for the info. Don't know why I never owned this game. The RealSports Football looks slow and impossible to play. Tennis, looks more like a Pong variant...
Supergun
For me, the biggest Atari 400/800 mystery was RX8028 (Soccer /Realsports Soccer) Why wasn't it released? Why has a Proto never surfaced?
gilsaluki
Thorn/EMI's Soccer is good. I have played it for years.
gilsaluki
One game reviewer commented that the moniker RealSports was added in later runs of Tennis and Football as a marketing tool. Sounds cooler. It followed the example set by the Atari 2600 RealSport Series. Cool thing about this hobby, I am still learning after 35 years. Does it use the keypad a lot? That's why the didn't do RS Baseball on the 8-Bit.
Brentarian
RS Soccer 5200 conversion just used the joystick and one button from what I can remember. I always wanted a RS Baseball conversion though.

I always wanted a RS Baseball conversion though. It probably didn't sell well enough to bother. I *think* (and I may be wrong here) that there was an 8-bit version found on some of John Segher's disks, but I might be misremembering. There was a time when all the console manufacturers were touting their realistic sports titles. I'd imagine it was in response to that. That may have been from my page (http://www.atariprotos.com/). I think I mentioned that a few times in my various RealSports reviews. I believe only Football and Soccer for the 5200 ever got out the door without the RealSports branding. I'd have to double check on that though. +CharlieChaplin
Hmmm, Homesoft has an "Atari Soccer" in his game collection (disk 49) - is this (a proto of) Real Sports Soccer or something completely different ?!? http://www.mushca.com/f/atari/index.php?dl=049|ATARCCER

AtariGeezer
Fandal also has a 5200 Conversion
Brentarian
Fandal also has a 5200 Conversion Thanks! That is the one I remember playing. I also found 5200 Baseball there: http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=5025. I'll have to try that tonight and see how it compares to Star League and Hardball. I played the heck out of RS Baseball on the VCS as a kid.
