soviet
Hello ok i have fried my apple IIgs and my trusty laser 128.I got them working fine but i have a brilliant idea, have my old apple 5.25 drive the one that have a flat ribbon cable, purchased a idc to d19 adapter and connected it to a apple IIe worked fine booted disk, then got the brilliant idea to hook it to my apple IIgs connected it and do anything the computer boot but was unable to boot from the drive any this i tested. So i think it was not compatible, then i connected it to my laser128 and the laser got a horrible burning smell from it bad very bad. The aftermath was this. The laser 128 boot and seem to work fine but the charters on the screen look corrupted. The appleIIgs works but now when i connect my unidisk 800k drive tries to boot and get a prodos error on every disk i tested. Any ideas how i can get this fix or options to not have to replace the whole board ?.
The Usotsuki
I guess you damaged the disk controller chip on the GS and the character ROM on the Laser?
Keatah
Without my test equipment and more info provided, I might think IWM. Personally, I'd trace out the adapter as a first action and see if all the pins are connected to where they're supposed to connect to, and that power wasn't applied to a TTL output for example.. Thank for your reply Keatah, now i tested the 800k drive and it works, probably its only partially damaged so its not a problem. The laser 128 I'm not sure is the charter rom because charters appear right at the left of the screen but got increasingly corrupted and when you get to the middle of the screen they look like a mess gona post more pictures of text charters is more clear than graphics also have the schematics from the manual. Keatah
Well, I know little to nothing about the specifics of a Laser 128. Little hands-on experience with the system. So I can't help much there. Can you run any diagnostic software? Test the RAM? And are you able to re-assign the external slot? Does that affect or change anything? soviet
Gonna try running a full diagnostics do you recomend any apple software to do this ?. Also will try reasign the external slot. Another idea i have is that the laser have RGB output in its video connector a digital CGA output also on the expancion video connector you can find composite gonna try RGB and take composite from this port to see if i got the same busted grafics and isolate the problem furter if posible, Thanks for your help Keatah.
