+grips03
Added Red led in the top right area. Hopefully this avoids the voice module. I don't recommend using the IDC / ribbon cable to db9 as you have to trim both the connector and the O2 case interior in order for them to fit. It would be much nicer to use the original O2 joystick cable, cut to 18 inches and buy the black plastic pin type db9 connectors, listed below. I only had IDC/db9 cables on had so I had to make do. Digikey: 5745051-2 black plastic db9 male with 4-40 insert and pin contact, would need 4-40 screw to hold in place Digikey: 5208006-2, 208006-1, 208006-2 black plastic db9 male without threaded insert, pin type solder contact, need screw and nut to hold in place the pin type solder contacts work well with heat-shrink tubing or Digikey: 1-745203-1, 745203-9 which have a little solder tray, need screw and nut to hold in place Still waiting to make holes for RCA jacks. I was thinking of using recessed area in the back but looks like it would interfere with system board. I can relocate the joystick ports on system board, however even with that there might not be room. Too bad as looks wise it would be ideal. Ordered cartridge connector, so for now that spot is empty. I bought two types one that takes 4-40 screws so might be able to use in lieu of rivets.
metarog
Looking good so far... I really like the controller ports in the front. The LED is right on the border where the Voice sits but it might just be okay. Thanks for sharing the pics... keep us updated.

+grips03
I've done a couple more of these and IDC db9 cables was the best method. Order Qty 2: H7MXH-0906M <--digikey.com
Stefan Haubenthal
The DE-9 D-sub 9-pin connector is often mistakenly referred to as the "DB-9" connector. The "E" refers to the shell size. A "DB-25" connector has a "B" size shell, but the common nine-pin connector is smaller and has an "E" size shell.
8bitwidgets.com
I love that you moved the 9pin ports to the front. Very cool power light is a bad ass update as well. I'm likely taking my O2 to my local repair guy to install a composite / s-video mod
