Rana 1000 - new problem

Ok, I've been persisting with a reluctant second Rana 1000, and after much shouting and throwing, i've now managed to get the thing to a position where

 

1] it'll boot/read disks fine

2] it'll try to format, but on selecting FORMAT as option, it spins up and gradually steps its way toward the middle of the disk - doing what it should do.

once it arrives there, it just keeps spinning...and spinning...and spinning, but no more head movement.

 

any ideas on how to fix this, really appreciated.

I don't know. This is native RANA DOS.
