New Atari Console that Ataribox?

From what I've read it's just four teeny badges, a bottle opener, a spinny keychain thing, and one of those bags they give away for free at events, but "Asteroids" flavored. Oh, and VCS shoebox.

"$50 VALUE"

So... six of those are worth one Ataribox.

Six mostly-empty cardboard boxes, with about a dollar's worth of useless trinkets inside, are worth one Ataribox.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

At least Atari hasn't chosen to go this low, yet.

In Sega's defence, some context might be needed here.

Those adverts ran in Viz, an 'adult' comic that happened to have broad appeal to 15-year-olds, university students, and the odd regular buyer outside of those two categories.

It wasn't an adult comic in the pornographic sense (though the odd poorly-drawn set of breasts would occasionally be thrown in for comedic effect, and the character of Buster Gonad and his Unfeasibly Large Testicles is exactly what he sounds like), but more because it was often vulgar, occasionally crude, and absolutely spot-on in how it skewered certain types of British comics and social stereotypes. Puerile, yes, but incredibly funny.

Even having grown up reading it, it's not really possible to explain every nuance of it, but those Sega adverts were absolutely perfect for the place that they were being run and their intended audience. Always liked the Seven Pints one, myself.

Earlier, when I looked up what Viz was, I figured it was similar to Mad Magazine; probably dirtier.

"Sorry we haven't updated you guys recently, we've had a issue with the space we were using to design this awesome system! One of our team member's wives was tired of parking her minivan in the driveway so we were forced to move and now were on the hunt for a new space! Don't worry, this totally isn't a scam!" - Made up quote from the Ataribox team

Nice card-board , pins and bottle-opener in the Target box, but 30 bucks..eh. Yet, if that box were to host an AtariAge home-brew or other project, as part of the "special packaging" , given the general care put in here, within the community; how many of us would jump on board and splurge on the premium, because our perceived value would be much higher? icon_mrgreen.gif
