+af0l
It's supposed to be based on PC technology. I'm afraid that makes it a non-followup But still, I'm excited to find out what it is.

JDTAY
The more, the merrier, I say. To sum up what we know from talking to Bill: It is a new platform, not some type of Flashback. However, it is a niche device, not meant to compete with the big three directly. It's not necessarily an innovative device. Its hardware value will probably be its biggest market differentiator. It does, however, have value adds and services that are meant to be a selling point. And finally, it's not necessarily targeted at us old codger Atari fans. Just enough info that we still know nothing at all... Edited June 20, 2017 by JDTAY
VladR
I propose we all wait till the vapourware becomes an actual physical hardware, that someone tests...
Felyx
We know that it is still under development and that Atari is recruiting developers. I doubt it can be like often written everywhere on the net a kind of NES classic to surf the retrogaming wave as Atari is already selling it 7th generation of Flashback and started tbat revival far before Nintendo. Zerosquare
I'm sure a company that basically devolved into a tiny developer of mobile casino games is the perfect choice to launch a new games console. Because it definitely doesn't require much skill or money, there's very little competition, and none of the other companies that tried the same thing in the last few years completely failed. If you liked the Coleco Chameleon, you're gonna love this one. But hey, it's heartwarming to see that after so many mergers and buyouts, "Atari" still stands for "clueless management". Rick Dangerous
I'm just surprised they styled it after the little known Atari 2600, when they could have styled it after the most recent and most smashing success from Atari, the 64 bit Jaguar!!

No I think that was the Atari Jaguar advertising barge, it was the most expensive part of the Jaguar advertising budget Edited June 21, 2017 by LianneJaguar64

LianneJaguar64
This is awesome, and I WILL buy one. It'll be cool to support it, though I will be a little bummed out if it's just a PC box type thing
82-T/A
It'll be cool to support it, though I will be a little bummed out if it's just a PC box type thing I thought about that... but in my own reasoning, I just don't see how dedicated systems can really last much into the future. If I'm not mistaken, the AtariBox will probably just be a Steam Box that's Atari-centric, with some extra features. And that's cool in my opinion. It just seems unrealistic that other companies will continue to produce dedicated systems when pretty much everything's coming out for the PC now anyway. Felyx
A kind of tradition with Atari: Breaking news announcement followed by nothing for weeks :/
Zerosquare
What do you mean? There's news. Apparently, it will feature an orange case: JDTAY https://www.facebook.com/atariboxofficial/ It comes in orange! See? BillLoguidice
It just seems unrealistic that other companies will continue to produce dedicated systems when pretty much everything's coming out for the PC now anyway. It's realistic because the console market is still healthy and thriving. The PC and console experiences are still different enough to more than warrant the purchase of a console even if you have a beefy PC.

MMMkkkkkkey, so if memory serves next are the limited editions cases aka collectibles, and then the bundles (RPG lovers, Action addict, Platform gatherers etc...etc... edition)
JDTAY
Oh hey, nice to see the conversation start up again. Seeing those boxes, they look smaller than a breadbox, so I'm willing to make a conclusion: The Ataribox is not bread. Unless, of course, they used flatbread. Those sly devils!
