Harry Potter
Hi! I have the Atari800/Windows emulator and can't figure out how to set up an emulated joystick using the keyboard. So, how do I do it?
mr_me
Joystick 1 is setup automatically. You can reconfigure the key mapping with the following. F1 > Controller Configuration > Define layout of keyboard joystick 1 Let me know if you can get the mouse/trackball emulation working properly. Harry Potter
I'll try that now. Thanks!
Harry Potter
I couldn't find the option. That's why I was asking. BTW, I'm using the Windows version, don't know the version #.
mr_me
Atari800 v3.1 windows So do you get a menu with F1?
Harry Potter
Yes, I do. However, I am leaving my mother's house this morning where the computer with the emulator is, but I may be able to run the emulator on my Win10 laptop.
Harry Potter
I tried the emulator on my Win10/64 laptop, and I get the same problem. BTW, I have v. 2.1.0.
mr_me
Why don't you try the latest version? http://atari800.sourceforge.net/
Harry Potter
I upgraded. Now, the emulator can't find my ROM files. I set the directory in the configuration, but it still gives me a No ROMs error message.
mr_me
Do you have any of the files atarixl.rom, atariosb.rom, ataribas.rom, 5200.rom in the program directory?
Harry Potter
I have the files in the program's directory. I also set the ROM directory to the program's. It doesn't work.
mr_me
How did you set the rom directory? Try deleting the cfg file and let the program find the system roms.
Harry Potter
I used the global feature to set all ROM directories at once. I am running out of time to test anything now, but I'll try to remember this evening.
Harry Potter
It worked. Thank you! BTW, how do I use the joystick? I am currently on a laptop that doesn't support a numeric keypad.
mr_me
Have you tried plugging in a usb game controller? By default the first system game controller is setup as joystick 1. If you want to remap the keyboard to joystick keys try the following. F1 > Controller Configuration > Define layout of keyboard joystick
Harry Potter
Thanks again!
Harry Potter
BTW, I have a PC joystick at my mother's house somewhere, but it's not a USB joystick.
mr_me
There are adapters that will make old PC joysticks into USB game controllers. https://sites.google.com/site/joystickrehab/itemcatal
Harry Potter
That would be unnecessary. Thank you, though!
gozar
If you're running Windows you might also want to check out Altirra. Especially if you want to play around with all of the new hardware available for the 8-bit.
