I found some deals at a local retro game store

I went to my local Video Game XChange here in Madison, WI. I picked up Jungle Hunt, E.T, and Moon Patrol for $2 each.

I also picked up Popeye and Q*bert for 3 dollars each

I found it odd that they had a lot of red label Atari 2600 games for $4 each

Sprintmaster, Jr Pac Man, Crossbow, Dark Chambers, Midnight Magic, Mouse Trap, etc

Does anyone think that $4 for the Atari 2600 red Label games is way too much?

I'm no expert by any means, but I've had a few people ask me if any of the carts I was selling were red label, so I think some collectors are interested in them. You could check the Rarity guide here on AtariAge. If the carts and the labels are in good condition, I wouldn't think $4 is that high. Most carts on eBay will run you that much or a little more when you figure in the shipping cost.

Man, I need to get more sleep. I was posting to correct what I thought was an error in my first post, which I couldn't edit, only to realize I didn't make an error. So, I'm now editing this post to fix what I fixed, that didn't need fixing.. :P

I hope that makes sense. I guess I could have just wrote, "Ignore this post." :-D

Depends on the game. Red labels are later releases when the 2600 was "competing" with the NES and had a much smaller market share, so some of them are more scarce. Others not so much. Based on your examples, it seems like your dealer is pricing based on label (2 dollars for silver label Atari games, 3 dollars for Parker Bros, 4 dollars for red label) rather than the rarity of the individual game.

Seems like you got the low end price of the going rate. The market here in Phoenix leans between $3-$5 for what you picked up depending on the label condition.

Then again most 2600 carts at game shops are in stacks, unorganized, and uncleaned. No respect.

I like Video Game X-Change as far as their 2600 games go. In my area the "nice" Atari 2600 games are stacked or neatly spread out in a display case.

Usually, this means silver and red label games are spread out. The Parker Bros games were stacked. The Atari 7800 games were all in a stack, I think they wanted $5 a piece for them loose, I did not get a good look at the price labels.

I did see Pitfall 2 loose there for 10 dollars which is 5 to 10 dollars lower than e-slave (aka ebay)

Now for PS1 games that I want, all the games I want are at least $20 and up. If I want any RPG I'm paying at least 25 and up.

I did see Megaman Legends 1 (Black Label) for 40 dollars if that game was 20 I would have bought it right then and there.

Anyways, I like their Atari 2600 selection, the owner tries to get the best of the best there.

Went to video game xchange again. I picked up the following games.

Battlezone $2

Centipede. $2

Phoenix. $2

Ms Pac Man.$3

Tutenkham $2

I know I spelled that last one wrong but who cares lol. The games are in excellent shape and play great. I'm a happy customer.

As someone who JUST finished my NTSC red label collection, no, 4 bucks is about on point for those, maybe a bit more on occasion.
