accousticguitar
My pentium ii computer is not outputting video so I am wondering if a video card would fix the issue. I don't want to pay too much since I don't know if that will fix the problem or not. If you have an old pci video card laying around that you want to get rid of let, me know how much you want for it. SignGuy81
Is this one that you purchased that didn't output any video when first tried it or is this one you have had awhile then all of a sudden not getting a signal to the monitor. Does the monitor get any response at all when you turn on the computer like it is trying to come on or anything?
accousticguitar
I've had this a while. It seems like it's turning on. I can hear the hard drive working a little bit but the screen is black and the computer never beeps.
SignGuy81
I would first try taking everything out, processor, ram, pci cards, blow everything off with air, and put it back together. Sometimes just reseating the stuff can help.
accousticguitar
I will give that a try, thanks. I did try taking the ram out and switching it around but that didn't help.
Osgeld
Also if you haven't clean the contacts on the card
SignGuy81
Also too check to make sure all your power supply voltages are good.
accousticguitar
Also if you haven't clean the contacts on the card I don't have a video card at this point; it's built in to the mother board. I do have a sound card and I think some other card. I did replace the power supply but I did not check the voltages.
SignGuy81
Another thing I like to try is to boot them up with the bare minimum and work my way from there. So any pci cards not needed I would take them out. Even unplug the hard drive or any floppies or cd rom drive. I would try starting it up with one ram card at a time or maybe even none to start with just to see if you get something on the screen, then put one in, the other one, just start adding things back till it doesn't work again(provided something worked at all using this method). accousticguitar
I took it apart and cleaned it (the heat sink was filthy), and then it started up! But, it still does not start up consistently. I'm not sure why.
+-^CrossBow^-
You stated this is Pentium II system? Does it still have a coin battery in it for keeping the CMOS settings? I have an old Asus TX97E board that will not boot unless I have a good coin battery in it. Might not be related..but..just thought I would ask about it. Also could be an issue with the power supply as well. After all..you should always apply ASAP when troubleshooting pretty much anything that plugs into a wall outlet. accousticguitar
I don't know if the battery is good or not. I will check that out, thanks.
accousticguitar
I just made a deal for a Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 Pro video card. Hopefully that will do the trick.
