Fragmare
Nice Pokey. Now a 7800 version of CV needs to be made! Agreed! ANY of the great, classic NES platformers would be awesome on the 7800 in 160a, fat pixel, POKEY music glory... Castlevania series, Ninja Gaiden, Mario, NES Batman, Contra, etc. If anybody is willing to do the coding, I'm down for making all the music and pixel art!
+save2600
...and I'll support all of the conversions with my pocket book!
empsolo
I don't know about this one. The POKEY version sounds flatter than the 2A03 let alone the VRC6.

rockman_x_2002
Sounds pretty awesome to me, and not too dissimilar in style to my POKEY cover for Contra's Jungle state from the NES. Awesome work!

Awesome work! Thanks! And what's that you say? You already covered a Contra tune on POKEY? *Checks off to-cover list* Link me up! I likes it! Thanks, man! +-^CrossBow^-
All channels of the Pokey are being used for these demos right? So that would only leave the TIA channels available for actual sound effects? So while the music can be done well enough and I'm sure the 7800 could handle the sprite work needed for these games, the actual sound effects for them might take away from the experience if having to the use the TIA. That would be my only concern.

That would be my only concern. Right, all 4 POKEY channels are being used. And, I dunno, I think the TIA could pull off some nice complex sound effects, depending on who is using it and how they're using it. I'm starting to screw around with TIATracker a bit more lately, maybe I'll try recreating some NES sound effects on the TIA and see how they come out. Hell, if I like hoow they turn out, I might go ahead and make a sound effects library for Atari homebrew/indie developers... I'm sure it would be useful for somebody some day

vidak
I could work on a 7800 CV after I finish this 2600 game. I've got a good grasp of assembly now.
willis
The 7800 needs a castlevania game, Nes conversions would be great to see!Now a proper original castlevania type game on the 7800 would be one hell of a sight to behold.
Fragmare
Thanks all. Glad you like the tunes. Oh yea, a CV conversion or clone on the 7800 would be awesome. And doable now more than ever, with the development of more advanced homebrew platformers like Bently Bear. I would definitely help out in the development (pixel art, music, sounds, etc.) on a project like that
Synthpopalooza
One helpful hint: If you are doing title screen music, set the POKEY into 16 bit mode where you have one 16 bit channel and two 8 bit ones, and use one of the TIA channels for percussion. This reproduces NES music with greater accuracy.
Synthpopalooza
Personally I want to see Blaster Master. That was my favorite NES platform game.
willis
This reproduces NES music with greater accuracy. That would be really nice to hear the potential the Pokey can achieve, but I really like the way it sounds now. It just has the POKEY flavor haha!
