Sugarland
Hi!! I just picked up my very first 800 today from an original owner who is moving to the other side of the US. When the 400/800s first came out I remember going to a computer store and wondering what were the advantages over the 2600. My brother explained that the pixels were smaller. At the time didn't understand the significance of that, being a nine year old kid. No way would my father buy a computer for any of us. Very psyched to finish get it cleaned up and try turning it on asap. Cleaned the case nicely. Having difficulties figuring out exactly how the metal tension strip goes on the door hatch. See attached photos please. Is that right? It popped out very quickly when i removed the latch and I didn't get a chance to remember how it went. Or are there broken/missing pegs here (see pics)? The hatch didn't work too well before taking it apart. The case seems to need some of that 'Super Lube 21030 synthetic grease' previously mentioned here in the forum. Also I see one of the big caps has a slight bulge to it. the back left corner one. Is that a problem? Haven't tried turning it one yet still cleaning. If I remember correctly, there should be two plastic "pins" that appear to be sheared off in your picture. They are visible in the first and second photos. See what appears to be a dry spaghetti sized circle in each corner that is rough in texture than the surrounding material? There is supposed to be two plastic risers "skinny pins" that would secure the metal tension bar. Unfortunately, you need a replacement part with the pins in tact to have it operate correctly.
Sugarland
Alright thank you. I feared that. I see that some people try pushing hot metal pins into those spots to jerry rig replacement. Got it very cheap so I'm not complaining. Thanks again.
