+x=usr(1536)
I wonder if the license holders would consider it piracy/want royalties if lots of people were to access games they didn't pay for? One thing I've been wondering: were the hidden games an artifact of development that should have been removed before the final images were released to manufacturing? Pissing off the licence holders probably isn't real high on the list of things that Arcade1up is likely to want to do - but things like this have been known to happen before. Pissing off the licence holders probably isn't real high on the list of things that Arcade1up is likely to want to do - but things like this have been known to happen before. The hidden games are an artifact, they tested a lot more. For Asteroids, the other files, besides SF2, are on the the Asteroids Deluxe 6-1 Cabinet. Arcade 1UP doesn't care. Besides me, and maybe 5 other people. NOBODY cares about the extra games, its easier to put in a PC, or PI to emulate thousands of other games. Also, theres a lot more buttons on the asteroids cabinet, they're just located all over the place. later -1

negative1
in other Arcade 1UP hacking news: ================================= since the sky is blue, as everyone knows. The MAME compiled on the arcade 1UP was supposed to be a subset of games that work as licensed. Turns out that's not the case. Upon further inspection of the MAME, which was thought to be 0.139, it can in fact run the 4000-8000 other games listed for it. 1) Most classics run at 100% with no frame skipping 2) Many others run with frame-skipping 3) A lot of games run slowly (as expected) 4) More have audio issues Controls can all be mapped through the USB hack, or possibly a USB encoder. Bottom line, its STILL NOT WORTH IT to use as MAME machine stock, unless you're too poor to use a PC, or pi instead. It's mostly a novelty, that it can run all those games, the menu is slow loading all those games, and it's very hit and miss what works and what doesn't. At this point, the only thing left, is working how to map it to internal controls. later -

negative1
"This board plays 4000 MAME roms, right out of the box!" "It's still not worth it!!" KEK Funny thing is, it all depends on your point of view. For me, it actually runs all my main favorites, and a few surprises: For 1980-1985 ----------- Pretty much every Williams game Pretty much every Atari game I like (including Blasteroids) Pretty much every Namco game Many Sega games Some Taito games Some Gottlieb games (Q*Bert) A couple of Nintendo games (Ice Climber, and Ballon Fight) About 30-40 random games I don't really care about the 7800+ games and variations that it could support. Not bad for the $100 I invested in it. later -1
PacManPlus
It would be cool to be able to convert the arcade 1up boards for HDMI out (or other) so it can run stand-alone with a joystick input, once you've replaced it with a Pi / PC / etc.
PacManPlus
So this is what I did to my Arcade 1up cabinets. - Moved the spinner over to the Centipede cabinet. - Put joysticks on either side of the Asteroids cabinet (one to cover the hole which the spinner left when I moved it). - Put a Windows XP PC in the Centipede cabinet (because I wanted the trackball / spinner to control the front end and RetroPie / EmulationStation doesn't do that). - Put a Raspberry Pi 3 in the Asteroids Cabinet running Mame4All (again because of the front end). - Sprayed both control panels (before assembling) with triple-thick glaze spray to protect the artwork. - Replaced volume switches with volume pots. Needed to use a tiny 5 volt USB amp. Here are some pictures. Please ignore the 'extra' holes in the Centipede control panel; I screwed up putting the trackball in. Wish I could just buy another CP. Here I attached a header to the monitor driver to output 5 volts, and ran it directly to the RPi. It also powered the small USB amp. Using a USB keyboard encoder as well. You can barely make out the small USB amp on the top-right of the picture ...and the zoom out pic of the rec room:

+GoldenWheels
That screen is awful small for light guns! Got some black screws from the hardware store last night...that and a black sharpie really helped clean up the look of the sides on my Rampage cabinet, no more silver screws in obvious mdf holes. Once my damn blue buttons show up, I can finally finish the thing! (though I admit...the light up marquee seems like it might be cool. Just not sure I'll go that far unless they get really cheap).
