Mclaneinc
I pride myself on being pretty savvy on the old gear but I have to admit I never knew this story... Whilst not totally Atari based, the Mario games impacted on every systems standard of game play, Miyamoto san's creation has been a huge influence ever since.. But the story about the name for the characters Super version involves an ordinary business man who has died and its an interesting story to those who don't know it.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46072339 Edited November 2, 2018 by Mclaneinc

+CharlieChaplin
Hello Paul AFAIK Mario first appeared in Donkey Kong. The Mario games came later. Sincerely Mathy His name "Mario" also came later. In DK he was originally just named Jumpman... And there was no lawsuit from Epyx, since their "Jumpman" game was out in 1983, while DK was already out in 1981...
Mclaneinc
Guys, read the article....Its not about the game itself, its about how the Super Mario name came about.....It was created about the guy who rented storage space to Nintendo...

_The Doctor__
ah everybody always mixes it all up even the folks who lived it... Mario got his name in very late DK games and in all of the Donkey Kong Jr. games... so you try and figure it out... since Donkey Kong Junior was only a year after Donkey Kong... Rybags
Yep - Donkey Kong was released with little fanfare originally. And the only one I saw locally was what I thought was a pirate ripoff but in fact Crazy Kong was an authorized/licenced copy of the machine. The first home release I saw was for the A8 so was a bit surprised with some of the sound effects and gameplay aspects but in fact they are what they're supposed to be.
