Savetz
The 10-line BASIC contest is back for 2019! In previous years, entrants could submit by posting their entries on the AtariAge forum. The contest organizers are no longer watching the forums — Gunnar told me "I don't post in forums anymore about the contest. It's too difficult and too time consuming to read and discuss in multiple forums. Amstrad, Atari, Commodore, Sinclair,Tandy, Apple, MSX, ... there are too many systems involved to keep all their forums tracked." So, to submit your program, email it to GKANOLD-ät-GMAIL dot COM. The deadline is March 30, 2018, 6:00 pm Central European Time (CET) You are welcome to also post your entries here for Atari folks to see publicly. I'm going to do that! But that doesn't submit your program to the contest, only emailing Gunnar will. The official rules are at http://gkanold.wixsite.com/homeputerium/kopie-von-basic-10liners-2018 (I know, it says 2018 but that's really the URL) You might also want to watch the official Twitter account at https://twitter.com/Basic10L I'm copy-pasting the rules here. Notable new rules: the FREI category is gone; there's a new "public's choice" award. And remember for the PUR-80 category, only factory built-in BASIC variants are allowed. Legal systems: All 8-bit computer systems Authorized BASIC dialects: All line orientated BASIC dialects are allowed with a restriction in the category "PUR-80" Since the jurors can not have the original hardware of all approved systems available, the system must be emulatable. The authors provide a recommendation for an emulator and briefly describe how to start the game. Since there were no posts in the category "FREI" last year, this category will be canceled. The known other three categories remain unchanged from the previous year. Category "PUR-80": Program a game in 10 lines (max 80 characters per logical line, abbreviations are allowed). Attention: In this category only factory built-in BASIC variants are allowed Category "PUR-120": Program a game in 10 lines (max 120 characters per logical line, abbreviations are allowed) Category "EXTREME-256": Program a game in 10 lines (max 256 characters per logical line, abbreviations are allowed) Further rules for the three aforementioned categories: 1. Loading of data or program parts from mass storage is not allowed 2. The 10 lines must not contain any machine programs 3. All code must be visible in the listing: self-modifying code or hidden initializations are not allowed 4. Allowed are POKEs in storage locations 5. Deadline: Saturday, March 30, 2018, 6:00 pm CET 6. Award ceremony: Saturday, April 13, 2018 at the NOMAM in Lübeck 7a. Voting by a panel of experts 7b. "Public's Choice" special award. Give hearts to your favorites on BASIC 10Liners twitter account @Basic10L 8. Together with the program, a text file with the program description and instructions should be submitted, including a short description of the start via emulator 9. For program descriptions and code explanations there can be up to 0.5 bonus points in the rating 10. The programmers agree to a publication of the programs, the descriptions and the instructions by the organizer 11. Send to GKANOLD-ät-GMAIL dot COM, receive a confirmation per E-Mail or in the 10Liner Forum Last year some programs were submitted that weren't games. We would be happy to see again so many nice contributions, even if they aren't games, or if they have more than 10 lines of code, or if they are not compliant to the rules. They are grouped in category "WILD". I am not involved with the contest other than a participant. -Kevin
