Punch-Out for NES is so much cooler than the arcade game of the same name. Gyruss for NES is almost unrecognizable from the arcade but I like both versions. After 35+ years, I finally beat Mike Tyson on my childhood NES, and I think Mike Tyson's Punch Out deserves more recognition as the possible winner of this debate. what really pushes this up for me is the inclusion of Tyson. I just can't think of another game that so perfectly coincided with the peak stardom of an elite celebrity. There's no way this game would have reached the same level of popularity or had the same urgency for the player without him, and because of him, it captured something no other game (probably) ever will.

dudeguy
I'm sure it's been mentioned but Mortal Kombat II for the SNES was about as good as it gets when it came to "well this sure beats driving to the arcade and going through a bunch of quarters." The animation and stages aren't quite as detailed but the gameplay is where it counts, and the sound is great. Always preferred it over the Genesis version
Astro Rabby
The version of Frogger by Parker Brothers for the 2600 is absolutely superb. The NES versions of various Namco games are excellent too.
