classics
Hi has anyone figured out how to get around the 16 meg HDD partition limitation on the atari 8 bit machines? It isnt so much a limitation as it is a need to stick with the Atari OS standard SIO frame. Such frames mean nothing to say a real hard disk, but all the Atari DOS systems are designed around the 2-byte sector ID in the SIO frame. If you write your own DOS system you can have partitions as large as you want, but only that DOS would be able to read and write to such partitions. Marco Mollison Sr.
I just figured that since I and many others use Sparta dos that someone might have come out with an upgrade to it.. But oh well I guess not... Having a large capacity hard drive with the capability of even 32meg partitions would be an improvement, since the limitation on most controllers is 8 partitions active at a time there would be a better chance for a Systems operator to accomodate more downloads (if there are very many BBS's left).
