Magmavision2000
I've played it, and it's awesome. It's not laggy, the controls make sense, and it's in widescreen. I don't know how or why some hackers ported it over, but I'm assuming it has something to do with the source code leak. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/ Share on other sites
DragonGrafx-16
You can get the better control with Super Mario 64 DS just by playing it in the 3DS... but whenever I have the urge to play Super Mario 64 I just play the original. Punisher5.0
Is it available in CIA format? I was just reading up on this and it looks like the game now supports the newly found 800 pixel mode. This should look really good! Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/#findComment-4597600 Share on other sites

The one I used was a .3DSX file, but I'm sure there is probably a .cia file. Punisher5.0
I just tried it out and it looks and plays great. Thanks for saying something. Its good to see the 3DS homebrew scene is still thriving. Magmavision2000
Here's some "magazine" shots: I wonder if this has modding capabilities like the PC port... Edited July 31, 2020 by Magmavision2000 Post flubbed up near the end, but I'm too lazy to fix it. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/#findComment-4597622 Share on other sites
Gamemoose
Wow! Thanks for sharing that! I used to have Super Mario 64 DS but it's not the same game as its namesake, so it never scratched the SMB64 itch. Magmavision2000
I just beat it (using MiPs clip, and BLJs), and I encountered a little bug. The credits don't show up fully on-screen (they're in the lower right-hand corner) the names are unreadable, other than that, it's a great little port. It almost feels official: Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/#findComment-4598064 Share on other sites
Punisher5.0
Someone on reddit was nice enough to post a cia version with updated graphics. It looks really nice now. Odds are it's not the source leak, but the code breakdown of the game where they entirely deconstructed the code and left it open to be thrown on anything someone can port it which was days before the leak happened. About the same time of the leak the PC conversion was released in a compiled state and it's fantastic. I don't have a hacked 3DS/2DS at all, but I would be curious to see if that Citra emulator for the handheld can run it, but that would take finding the compiled build and any other files potentially needed for a wow moment. If you have a N3DS or N2DS then you totally should hack it. It makes the handheld pretty incredible. The older models have a tough time nowadays though. Everything is geared towards that much more powerful CPU in the "new" systems. Magmavision2000
I got the .cia version. Now I'll just wait for someone to make a compiled version of the SGI mod and I'll be content. Sold it a couple months back as it was rotting mostly for the better part of 2 years or so since it turned into a hehash release system with a lot of garbage. Oddly a week back I did get an original 2DS locally in a weird well priced pick up locally so it won't cut it well. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/#findComment-4598974 Share on other sites

Video
Wow, I just caught this, four years later. I was going to say, no real surprise, as super Mario 64 is on DS legit anyways, and surprisingly playable. Does the 3ds version work in 3d? That would be cool, but I see more desire in being able to use the 3DS circle stick nub thing (closer to how 64 works) Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/#findComment-5508916 Share on other sites
Tanooki
Wait...what...wtf Mario 64 GBA?! Shame it will never be made public, kind of wish he just wouldn't show stuff like this or anyone in general. It feels like a mean tease. It's not like you can't make the engine and just use something more generic instead of letting fans of a popular franchise twist in the wind like that. NE146
Maybe i'm not understanding but is there any major benefit to playing this vs just vanilla Super Mario 64 DS? DragonGrafx-16
I really want Nintendo to re-release SM64 DS with fixed control. I loved the bonus content. This has texture filtering so it doesn't look like a PS1 game and it runs at a much higher resolution Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/309639-mario-64-has-been-ported-to-the-3ds/#findComment-5509521 Share on other sites
Jess Ragan
Also, there's none of that silliness where Yoshi is the main character. What the heck was up with that, anyway? Does PSOne run well on a 3DS, by the way? I won't bother with emulation if it doesn't. The Vita's a better place to play those games anyway. M-S
This SM64 port to GBA is amazing, the developer could replace Nintendo's assets with his own to release it to the public, the game's patents have all expired by now, I always remind of Freedoom, which is a game that is identical to Doom, the physics and the amount of levels, except for assets, so it's freely distributed. 6 hours ago, Jess Ragan said: Also, there's none of that silliness where Yoshi is the main character. The 3DS can't run PS1 emulators as far as I know.
