Nick15
Ooof, I kinda goofed, but I'd like to believe that I didn't. I found this on eBay and I immediately dropped money on it because the serial numbers suggested a 1-chip: A1 01 2073806 Afterall, pretty much every unit with a date code above A1 96 and/or a serial starting with 2 has been a 1-chip, so why not this one?? But after closer insepction... it looks like it's a 3-chip unit. Dang it! POINT A: It has a darken area that suggests that metal shielding that isn't seen on a 1-chip unit POINT B: you can see that there is a hole in something, further suggesting that it's a 3-chip unit. It's already paid for and the seller doesn't accept returns, so I'll just bite the bullet and hope that maybe I'll get lucky and that it's a 1-chip unit with back shielding. I mean, maybe they found a hidden pile of shielding and decided to use them up in a late batch like this?? If anything, I'd like to add this to the list so that people can be aware of it one way or another, and I'll be sure to post images of the final result when it comes in. Nick15
Whelp, I just got it today and... it's a 3-chip. Dang it! All the chips are dated from the 25th or 26th week of 1986 too. Kinda disappointed... this must have been a board swap or something. Bah.

Thank you for your sacrifice for Atari science. 😿 Did you happen to see a revision letter on the other side of the board?

Amazing find! Assuming that was the original sticker/case/serial number as sold, I have now documented 2ish unicorns from 1998 (this being the only confirmed one), and every other unicorn is from mid/late 1989

Have you opened them to see what revision the board is? I suspect the first 2 are Rev 3, the rest Rev 4. If CIB means you have the box, does the box have a matching serial number, and color? Thanks! skintigh
@CrazyGadget It would be great if you could verify all the board revisions, but if you're loathe to open them up, perhaps just check the 2nd one? I have guesses about 4 I'm confident in, but there's one in-between... My guesses: A1831548204 rev 3 A1861691401 rev ????? A19B2048856 rev 4 A1982037084 rev 4 A19B2057869 rev

+gobbledock
This thread got me to check out the unused 2600 Junior I have stashed away. I have no idea what it is. It's pretty standard looking unit from Australia: i The serial number is X72 94292555 Is it a 1 chip? Purchased in October 1994. I wish I had bought more. It's a PAL unit, I'm not aware of any 1-chip PALs. It also has the shielding on the left, see the links to pics in the first post. But it's still amazing you have the 30-year-old receipt!!!
