Converting A/V to Chroma/Luma?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to split the video signal from an A/V cable to work on an old-style composite monitor? I have a C64 monitor that's sitting around and not earning its keep (except with the C64 itself) and was wondering if it's possible to hook an A/V-based system up to it. I have an old 27" floor model TV that works for most systems, but it has a V-hold problem with a few systems (Saturn, mostly) that causes screen flickering that gets especially bad on bright screens. If I could hook that up to the C64 monitor it'd probably help a great deal.

What model is the Commie monitor? I think most of them have the

RCA jacks for composite AV input. With a 1702 they are on the

front with chroma/luma on the back. Neither one if for the chan2/chan3

RF signal if you are using that.

If you really need chroma/luma, then Radio Shack sells a $21 converter

thingee that converts composite video. IMHO, it won't produce svideo (chroma luma) sharpness, just the signals (why would the converter do

a better job at the separation than your TV?). I use one on the output

of my switchbox that has all the composite systems plugged into it.

You will probably also need to make an adapter cable that has an s-video

jack at one end and rca plugs at the other.

lol! I don't know why, but I never actually notice the A/V connections on the front. Yes, it is a 1702. I'm going to have to fiddle with that and see how it works! It's a pain in the arse plugging it all into my TV, using the monitor would probably be a great deal easier. Thanks!
