Another Coleco question

I was wondering about the 2600 expansion module. Is it reliable? Better or worse than the 5200 VCS adaptor? Can you use the coleco controllers? Or do you have to buy 2600 compatable joysticks?

You can use CV controllers for sure. AFAIK the expansion module is able to run almost every VCS game, though not all of them, since it was reverse engineered. I think there is a compatibility list somewhere...

Per the Colecovision FAQs, it does not appear to have any carts that would not work. In fact, it was the bases for the Coleco Gemini system made later.

I think my chances of buying a Colecovision before I get a 5200 just doubled

I have never had a cart not work in the CV expansion module. There was some problem with sone of the carts fitting in, but if I remember correctly you could jimmy the port door and they would work. I think from a technical standpoint, the CV expansion is probably the most compatible thing next to an actual VCS.

Has anyone tried the CV expansion module with Vault Assault? I know that game has some problems with a 2600 Jr. Or an original Space Treat? It had issues with some different hardware too.

I unfortunately don't have any of the homebrews yet so I can't say if they work with the CV expansion.
