Hello

I'm having trouble climbing the mountain on congo bongo. It looks like there are vines/,ropes. Are these helpful and how do I use them.

The vines are basically just scenery; you can't interact with them.

 

If you look at the mountain, it appears to be composed of a series of tall steps.  To climb a step, walk up to the face you want to climb and keep moving towards it.  You should begin automatically climbing it.

At least the 5200 port looks better than that atrocious 2600 port.

part of the problem is that, in spite of my own childhood nostalgia for CB, its an awful, awful game.    ;']

Play the Colecovision port if you can, has 3 of the 4 screens plus better colors and controls. I love the 5200 but Congo Bongo is easily one of the worst games on the system and one of the worst ports of congo bongo

Most home versions of Congo Bongo look like visual vomit.   The best looking ones I've seen are the Apple II, believe it or not,  although the colors are a little oversaturated.   Also the disk version of the C64 is good.   The other C64 versions are not.
