zylon Posted January 3, 2021 Share Posted January 3, 2021 (edited) A long time ago, I used to run a "special round" in the HSC, called "Left, Right, & Shoot S...." We're going to do a reprise of that here for our month. We will play Space Invaders, Galaxian, and Megamania, all on defaults. Straight or guided missiles in Megamania at your choice. Play using real 5200 systems, using Atari mfg controls, -1 round pt penalty for use of Wico per game. The only modern tech allowed is flashcarts/SD loaders using original Roms. Pics preferred, but not required, except for HSC wins and records. Round ends when month does. The scoring: Because of the huge difference in scoring on these games, each game will be scored separately, but round points will be earned per each position. Top spot earns 10 round points, 2nd spot earns 9 round points, etc. Lowest round points will be 3. 3 round points will also be given for missing one game. Player must post which game they will miss so I can award the "token points" Combined round points will decide your finishing places for the round. Ties will be settled by combined score. HSC record bonus will still be in effect, plus any surprise I can devise. zylon Posted February 1, 2021 Author Share Posted February 1, 2021 Some tips I'll offer on a couple of these games- Space Invaders- the key to scores on this one is to survive to at least the 2nd level, and then avoid shooting the aliens when bluish. They're worth about twice as much when green. Only one alien can shoot at a time. keep one lone alien up top corner and when he fires, you have until his shot hits the ground, to blast the holy hell out the rest. This is gold on the 2nd level onwards. Galaxian- ships are worth double, if shot in flight, and only those in flight can shoot you. You may not get as far in wave number, but you can earn hella more points by being "sporting".
