Lardo Boffin
Hello all I have just got my first 2600 Junior in black but the regulator is not attached to the metal of the PCB, nor is it lined up properly to allow it to be held in place by a nut and bolt. Is this normal or a manufacturing / repair defect? Also - no RF shield. Has they abandoned them by the time these were released? Many thanks! Jason_Atari
I opened up mine to have a look and compare it to yours. Mine has the RF shielding, and the voltage regulator is bolted onto the pcb and has a heatsink underneath it. I would assume that yours has been worked on in the past and they haven't bothered putting the shielding back in or mounting the regulator. Lardo Boffin
Thanks! I will desolder and reposition the regulator so it doesn’t melt itself! I did have a look at photos of the odd one that appears on eBay (where they posted photos of the underside) and most clearly have RF shields but some don’t so I guess its a relatively common issue. marauder666
I’ve seen pal jrs with no bolt through the regulator, untouched ones without shield being removed. Jack penny pinching again.
atariUCLA24
Off topic, but would could you take a picture of the entire board and confirm that this was a made in Ireland unit? I ask because I have a weird all black jr that has "Manufactured by Atari-Wong in USA" on it which makes no sense and has no Atari markings on the PCB. I'm 99% it's an interesting bootleg but have been looking for a photo of a Irish Jr board to confirm they did have Atari markings on them... Lardo Boffin
I will take some more photos later but definitely has Atari on it (just to right of the power switch):
Lardo Boffin
Photos. The case on this is a real dust magnet. Edited May 16, 2021 by Lardo Boffin Spelling mistake.
Lardo Boffin
Voltage regulator is now firmly in place thanks to a nut and bolt from a ZX81 that no longer needed them.
