Where did the list go to?

I see only a message that says DELETED :(

I didn't get it all in time.

Please repost it.

I am sorry, but no, I will not repost it.

In the past most people have appreciated the CRC updates.

This time however, someone I rather reveere at this sire, has made it clear that not all appreciate the work, and some in fact, view it as the lowest form of digital internet scum iimaginable... SPAM.

As such, I have pulled the list.

I have no intention of aggravating people with unwanted work.

Hence, if it is wanted, it must now be obtained.

It will still be available, but only to those here who have access to the archive.

That is primarily developers.

If one of them desires to post the data somewhere, so be it.

I have no problem with that.

I don't think Thomas was criticizing your list as such. He just didn't like the way you posted it here. The list is very large, which results in long download times for people with slow internet connections. Also a list with that many entries is difficult to read in a web browser. If you just keep attatching a ZIPed version of the list to your post, like you used to do, I'm sure no-one here would mind.

A CRC is in essence, fingerprinting for software.

No matter what you call a file , the CRC value will still identify it.

This is very useful in identifing exact same roms with different names or making certain that a rom with no decernable name isn't one already known.

It can also make certain that two roms with the same name really are the same.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had I been asked to resubmit the work as a zipped file and for the reasons mentioned, I wouldn't have minded, but to have it compared to spam is another matter entirely.

Definition:

1. Repeating a word many times in a web page, in a (usually futile) attempt to increase its relevance ranking in a search engine's index.

2. A message is considered unsolicited spam if it is sent to a recipient who has not requested or invited the message.

3. The term "SPAM" is derived from the Monty Python song, "Spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam, lovely spam, wonderful spam…" Like the song, spam is an endless repetition of worthless text.

4. The electronic equivalent of junk mail.

I don't think Thomas was criticizing your list as such.

Exactly.

Okay. I'm sure this is a case of he meant what he said, but he didn't say what he meant...

I'll leave it at that.

Meanwhile, the list still remains available to those with access to the archive.

Sorry, English is not my native language (by far if you ask my old English teachers ) and sometimes (or often?) I am making mistakes when trying to express myself precisely.

And I didn't check the thread again (expecting it to be still huge) until Eckhard's post attracted me.
