gorgh
Hi folks, I'm writing a game and the initial calculations take more than one frame. Normally I would split the procedure in 2 parts, but I'm wondering whether it can be avoided by simply truning off the screen by writing into VBLANK register and forcing VSYNC after the calculations are done. What I want to avoid is flickering that may cause some problems on different displays
Thomas Jentzsch
Yes, you can do that. Did that in my own games Jmmed and The Stacks (WIP). But you need more than one frame for VSYNC. CRTs cannot sync that fast.

It was a lot of work for a first timer like me to break up the hand scoring routines in Cribbage Squares so that no single chunk took too long, no matter the hand complexity. I wish I knew this then, I would have happily turned off the screen for a moment ?
