ColecoGamer
Can someone please explain where the Keyboard Encoder IC Chip is located on the Apple IIc’s motherboard? I figured there would be something online to help me, but what I found explains nothing. Please HELP! ColecoGamer
It took a long time to find, but I came across an old message board conversation where a user mentioned the chip number. That is more than I knew before, so now I can scout out the motherboard and replace the chip. I keep reading that the IC chips are socketed, but I also thought it was soldered to the board. Go figure.
nick3092
Just pulled up pics of my IIc. I'd put my money on the chip where the pcb marked ENC, to the lower left of the keyboard connector. Mine is soldered. Mine is also the original non memory expansion model. They may have moved and/or socketed it on the later memory expansion model. If I encounter any problems, I will post a photograph of the motherboard.
nick3092
I have an expansion IIc as well, I just didn't take pics till now. It's in the same location as the original model, and is still soldered.

ColecoGamer
Well… after all that time I spent verifying the location of the Keyboard Encoder chip, my soldering iron decided to crap out on me. I ordered a new one, and it will be delivered this coming Monday. What a bummer!
nick3092
That's nice if you have the official Apple memory expansion card. Those aren't that common from what I've seen. I haven't actively looked for them, but the few times I have they weren't easy to find. Clearly you can see in my picture I went with the modern aftermarket route. I don’t believe its an official Apple card, but here it is:
nick3092
Ah, that's a 3rd party ram expansion for the original IIc without the expansion header. I had incorrectly assumed you had the later model IIc.
