7800 started to make a "snow" sound, was quiet.

Hi.

 

My 7800 has started to make a snow sound like you hear on the fm dial where there is no station. The actual game sound is still there, but on an equal level with this noise. Other systems hooked up don't have it, thus I know it is the 7800. As this is my back-up system, it is not imperative to fix, but if someone knows what has gone wrong, obviously I would like to fix it!

Are you using a switchbox, that could be the reason ?

Could be electronic drift in the audio variable inductor.

If you open your 7800 up, you'll see a tall red thing, just below, and to the left, of the cart slot; use an alignment tool (plastic allen wrench) and adjust it slightly till the sound clears up.

it could be a combination of both... Adjust the internals first and if you still have static its most likely the box. I had static and a bad box once. Needless to say, the atari sounded worse than an old rusty iron lung
