914 Terminal and DXS Data Exchange System (1977)

Recommended Posts

Seeing the 914 Terminal referenced in the price list below below reminded me that I hadn't seen a 914 in the wild or even found a clear picture, except for keyboards on deskthority and Ebay. Then I remembered that I had run across the following on bitsavers, where it has been since 2014. 990's could be similarly set up as terminal controllers for mainframe communications, but I hadn't been aware that 960's were used this way as well. Nice, though, and interesting that 914s were still being used at TI in 1984. http://bitsavers.org/pdf/ti/terminal/brochures/DXS_Data_Exchange_System_Brochure_Apr76.pdf

A 914A has turned up on Ebay, if there are any well-heeled collectors out there, or even an enlightened keybhoarder, interested in one. $3K opening bid. Sheesh. Be nice to get detailed pics of the innards, and any ROM dumps, anyway, and the same for that RDTC (modem? terminal controller?). Very little documentation out there. It is an intelligent VDT, though, and it has a CRU expansion port, so maybe 9900 family? https://www.ebay.com/itm/125632179167
