macsonny
Hi All, I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets a bit annoyed at how the drive selector is done not he 1050. I have w4 drives and I'm constantly changing drive IDs which is a real pain. Has anyone come up with an elegant mod to change the ID a little more easily? Thanks
+Stephen
I always thought a nice rotary encoder would be nice, but I've not modded a drive before. BITD I only ever had one drive.

Not sure if this might point you in the right direction, but my 1035 drive (1050 modified to have a 3.5" mech) has a rotary switch for D1:-D4: on the front. Got it from The Brewing Academy who designed it in conjunction with DropCheck from Bits of the Past. Works great with the Happy 1050 I have next to it. That one is D1:, and if I need both, I set the 1035 to something else... if I need the 1035 to be D1: I just set it to 1 and turn off the Happy 1050. No issues with that so far.

You could use something like this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264922342992 and wire it like this
+Larry
Here's a zip that might help. I've never hooked up more than a 3-drive select using a single toggle switch -- d1, d2, d4. IIRC, the docs show how to use two switches for all 4 drives, so you'd have to adapt that to a rotary switch if you need all 4. 1050 Mods.zip
_The Doctor__
MIO, BlackBOX, and certain DOS like SpartaDOS and SpartaDOS X allow you to reassign the drive id map... changing them on the fly during your current session... I keep a few stacks of drives next to each other with ID's duplicated on some... just flip the power off for one and on for the other and such... some speeder upgrades and updates may allow for semi-persistent ID changes as well Edited November 22, 2022 by _The Doctor__
