Barrage and Joystick Diagonals

Finally got the chance to play Barrage but came across something strange. Using the TI joystick, I cannot get the target to move diagonally. It just refuses to do it - it will only go vertically or horizontally (yes, Alpha Lock is up). I then tried a Wico Command Control adapter thingy along with a regular Atari joystick. With that, diagonals work fine.

likely your ti joysticks are worn or old or just they suck and don't make the connections on the membrane like they should..

 

don't use them  they hurt your hands and do nothing for your gameplay

 

 

[Retrospect]

With the TI Joysticks coming in pairs, open both up and take out the membrane contact sheet from Joystick-2 and replace Joystick-1's membrane with it, also give it a good clean inside.  I tried this in the late 80s and it worked a treat as Joystick-2 was seldom used.

I miss my TI joysticks. Have fond nostalgic memories of them.

 

They weren't working right when I got the system set back up, so I took 'em apart to clean and the contacts lifted right off with all the mechanical parts. They'd apparently bonded to the foam at some point and just left their little plastic sheet.

I repaired the fire button with two small pushbuttons inside. Still works.
