reifsnyderb
Is there any downside to modifying the OS so that you have to hold the Option key down to boot into BASIC?
_The Doctor__
None that I am aware of except people who are used to holding option will think it's broken 1

No - ever since I got my 1st 32-in-1 OS, I've used "reverse-basic" ROMs. I hated the decision to default to BASIC being on when so much required it to be off. Even when I was still coding natively, I had long moves past the built in BASIC anyhow.
mimo
only when you put your 600xl with the reverse basic mod in storage for 6 years, forget you did the mod and then wonder why nothing loads
TZJB
None really. I regularly use the v3_85_hi_op_ma.rom previously published with this feature. It is very useful as most programs run without BASIC enabled anyway. A V4 would be welcome.

There are some very rare productions that compute some checksums of ROM to detect if they run on a certain OS version. But it's just a theoretical problem - I only heard of them but never met any. In practice - it should be no problem.
+Larry
I have run into a few things that will not run because of this, but it's very uncommon.
