motrucker
Does any one here have any files on the Data 20 16Kb Video Enhancer for the VIC 20? Specially about the cartridges PSU. This one is supposed to be 9VAC, but does not have a DIN plug - just three traces from the circuit board. Help.
motrucker
I knew these were rare, but, I didn't realize they were this rare. This device will, according to the box, offer 40 columns with a TV, and 80 columns with a monitor. If I could figure out how to power it...... +evg2000
mine is packed away, but it didn't have a power supply. I do think it hooked to the video out, but it's been awhile actually, I found a picture of the insides. there is only one port and it's the video out
carlsson
Aha. It is a Data20 Videopak. It is mentioned here. Rick Melick once wrote on his now archived website: Quote Power supply was 9V AC output (same as VIC), so a two prong VIC-20 power supply could be adapted by connecting leads to the bottom side of pins 1 and 3. It appears that Data20 made a number of devices, of which the Videopak and the Display Manager are two different products that achieve pretty much the same results. The main difference may be that the Display Manager doesn't have any built-in RAM expansion, so it might not need just as much power. Still, you can use a cartridge expander to plug in both memory expansions, IEEE interfaces and 40/80 column interfaces (I've done that myself) at the same time without any need for external power but perhaps that maxes out how many amps the cartridge port can deliver.
+evg2000
I wonder if the 4 empty spaces in the upper right of the DM20 can be used for ram or something else? never mind, looked at the link. I guess it can!
motrucker
Thanks for the info. The cartridge I had (I just traded it) has 16Kb of RAM. Somewhere I found a file said it needed a 9VAC PSU - but that file had no photos at all, and I can't find it again. My cartridge is different from any I can find a photo of. I had a perfect box, but no manual, and only the info printed on the box. The cartridge looks like the photo evg2000 posted, but the PC boards is very different. Again, many thinks for the help guys.

This picture supposedly is of the Videopak: http://www.nemetzpower.de/Denial/Data20-16k.jpg As mentioned, use pins 1 and 3 on the bottom side for 9V input.
