Skyhammer 288

Such an amazing game on the Jaguar. Probably the crowning technical achievement of the system and really nicely polished and amusing too.

It's good, but choppy, and as I understand it almost unplayable when things really ramp up.

Crowning technical achievement I think would go to Tempest 2000.  That game many have agreed was the killer app of the system.

Tempest 2000 is Gouraud shaded and has no polygon geometry other than the enemies and the bacon. It’s an amazing game but it isn’t doing nearly as much technically as Skyhammer.

Ah, we are looking at where the Jaguar is working the hardest or doing more heavy lifting?   I think Zero5 would be more likely in that category.   Not a better or more likeable game as Tempest 2000, but visially impressive.

Skyhammer might also be the Jaguar heavy lifting, but it is also obvious the Jaguar is saying meakly "help...."

Zero 5 has no levels, just enemies and your ship. It also uses flat-shaded polygons.

No levels in Zero5?   LOL....

The only other game on the Jaguar that is on the level of Skyhammer technically is Black ICE White Noise.

Black Ice White Noise was promising looking.  As for "technically superior", I think that comes down to personal preference.  There is lot the Jaguar can do, and some of those things it does really well.   IMHO Skyhammer and Black Ice White Noise showed the Jaguar could do a certain trick... with difficulty.

Zero 5 manages to do what Star Raiders and Star Strike did on the Atari 2600. That’s not really an achievement. Star Wars Arcade on the 32X did much more impressive things than Zero 5.

The trick that Skyhammer and BIWN did was looking like a PlayStation game.

But you said it did not have levels.  It clearly does was my point.

And I'm sure there were many game systems that did many amazing things, we're discussing the Jaguar.  ;)

And maybe that is why I am not buying into your arguement that your chosen two games were "technically superior" as I find a lot of early Playstation games fairly drab and boring.   But hey, glad you have what you like, and I do as well.  Think we just need to agree to disagree on this one.

Fun games, ready for the next round of Jaguar HSC.  :D
