Next up is Phoenix Wright. I’m tryin’ to work through my recommendations backlog

I bought a bunch of those during the 3DS eShop shutdown sale. Pretty good so far, I can see why people love the series so much.

I ended up using a gift card I had from my birthday last month and snapped up Another Code.  I kind of got distracted by some 8bit finds lately but remembers I put it into the system and in the last few days I've played it for a good stretch twice.  It's nice, and if you own the DS game it's NOT the same, you can't just slide through and that's that.  I'm up to Ch4, the father, or who I think is a fake dad being all shitty...Bill? went off with the code keys.  For now he went off to be a wanker while I try and figure out D's memories.  I have to get to bed sooner than later and do a few things before that or I'd keep going.  So far, worth the value, and the fact that the Wii game we in the US got screwed out of is in there to play next is just perfect.

I started playing Bravely Default 2 again.  I played about 15 hours of the game a couple years ago and I have been wanting to go back and play again.  I really enjoy this RPG and I think it has a very enjoyable battle system.  I just finished up Triangle Strategy.  I thought it was a wonderful SRPG but a strange grind system I think intentionally built into what they call the encampment where you can replay your past battles and some skilled based ones.  I thought the story was great though and I am looking forward to new game plus in a month or so after I finish Bravely Default 2.

I finished the main story of Dave the Diver.  It was a fun ride but I don't know if I'll continue it.   If the game is to primarily focus on running/maintaining Bancho Sushi, that's not my bag. Those elements to me were a means to an end (to get to the "end").

I finished it also. I don’t usually do “endgame” stuff anyways so I thought it was great.  They throw a lot of stuff at you in that game but it’s very digestible. Good times. I’m now playing through Octopath Traveler 2. Loved the first one, digging this one as well thus far.

Game Center CX: Arino no Chosenjo 1+2 REPLAY

This consists of two DS games that have been remade for the Switch.  It includes both the original game and its sequel, with each selectable from the main menu.  It's more than a port, as the game even adds some extra stuff like more fake retro games, two-player modes, and online rankings.  Interestingly, the first game in the series was actually released outside of Japan as "Retro Game Challenge," though the second game unfortunately never left Japan.

These are some very clever games based surprisingly on a TV show license.  In the show, comedian Arino has to play through old (often tough) games on a strict time limit.  In the games, you are sucked back in time to experience being a kid playing games in 80s Japan.  The clever thing is that the developers have created a bunch of fake retro games in the style of (mostly) Famicom games, but that the games are actually pretty decent to play!  On top of that, you have to clear challenges for each game in order to progress the story and unlock new games. The challenges are actually pretty interesting, and force you to learn the mechanics of each game.  In order to figure out how to really play these games, you have to read through (pretty authentic) instruction booklets made for each game, and you can even reference (somewhat authentic) magazines for hints.

The games are fun enough that I think most people (who like games at all) would like them, but it's especially fun for anyone who grew up in the 80s.  The main interface is you as a little Japanese kid sitting next to kid Arino in front of a small TV with a not-Famicom in front on the floor, and the interactions between games are fun.  Kid Arino asks you whether you're the type to read the instruction manual before you play a game; answer yes, and he admits that he always felt like reading the manual was like admitting defeat.  At one point the game doesn't work so he suggest blowing on the contacts to get it to work.  It's stuff that's universal for any kid who grew up playing video games.

Oh, is it just a remake? I thought it was a new game.
Either way, I hope they change their minds and release it in English. The DS ones are so good.

Let my kid play some more Mario Odyssey this week, he's getting pretty good at it.
He wanted me to do the Dark Side of the Moon for him, but I think I need to tackle that boss rush on a less-stressful day.
