I had a couple requests/suggestions before we start this season's tournament:

  • Can we post the games everyone picked at the start of each round?  This is information I would like to consider if I have the opportunity to select games in subsequent rounds (no point in wasting a pick on a game you know nobody else wants to play).  Does anyone think there is benefit to keeping the game selections hidden from the group?
  • I suggest we do something to make Defender more difficult since several of us hit rollage during the season.  I can think of few ways to do this:
    • Put the difficulty switch on A, although I'm not sure this solves the problem.  If Twin Galaxies is an indicator, the game appears to be a marathon for the most skilled players regardless of the difficulty switch setting.
    • Make the game a 1-life challenge.  After you lose your ship, you must immediately pull down on the joystick until your second ship is safe at the bottom of the screen so you can take a photo of your score.  I'm not sure this solves the problem either since I think I could keep the game going for quite a long time (perhaps to rollage) by intentionally allowing the planet to blow up and only playing the mutant rounds.  This would be an insanely boring, yet safe way to play the game.
    • End the game the first time the planet blows up.  It would require a bit of skill to keep all five humanoids safe, especially with this game variation.  This is the option that has my vote.
    • Do a combination of the previous two - the game ends when you either lose a life or when the planet blows up.

@kermit73 Great Suggestions!

Yes, we will Play Defender as Game 8/ End of the world Challenge.

As for Posting the picks:

When I contact the Top 4 players, I will ask each player if they want their games posted.

If ALL 4 Players want their games posted... I will post all the games they picked.

I will do this each round.

Otherwise, the picks will stay hidden except for the last round

Hiding picks creates a strategy... But I guess showing the picks would too in the subsequent rounds.

If anyone has anymore suggestions on Game Variations for the Tournament... Please PM me.

PM me the List.

Also, let me know:

If you want everyone's picks to be shared after all the picks are made.

Or you wish to keep all picks secret.

PM me your answer

Let me know. PM your list and answer.

I’ll get this party started with the best Frogger score I could muster these first two nights:

Frogger, The Official - 13,310

I also played too much Ladybug tonight but wasn’t able to break my high. Then I forgot to take a pic to get on the board bc I was determined to get a new pb. I had 199,xxx and broke 100k before I collected Special, for what it’s worth, which is nothing bc I don’t have a pic and this is the big leagues gosh darn it! I’ll be back with a pb before too long!

Something to start me off, a nice improvement from my main round scoe in Frogger. This would have put me 5th in the main round, but whether it will get me to the top half here is another matter. I need to do well on this one to progress. Pressure Cooker was one of my two "must avoid" games. I really like the game, I'm just rubbish at it.

So I'm pretty much guaranteed a strike there, so need to do well on the other two. Lets see how this does.

New pb in pc!

Pressure Cooker - 55,400

I’m gonna be on vacation during the last weekend of this first round, so I gotta go hard while I can. Competition here is insane, just judging by the season scores, plus duh. So if I can continue to beat my own score for each game this round, I’ll consider that a job well done :)

P.S.- notice how I lost while delivering a burger 🤦🏻‍♂️ There’s even an arrow pointing at the failure haha.

Lady Bug: 222060

Frogger: 47380

Pressure Cooker:219870

I almost got a second special on Lady Bug which would probably have pushed the score to close to 300k, perhaps higher.

I need to learn how to play Frogger again.

For Pressure Cooker, I found that if you have an order for a plain burger, it's best to kick other ingredients away and make the plain burger first.  If you start an order with two or more toppings, you'll either be kicking away a bun several times or making a plain burger from higher on the conveyor.  I think the key to getting nosebleed scores (220k and up) is to be smart about which burgers you allow to drop off the end on the higher levels since there is no way to complete all 12 burgers at the faster speeds.

Frogger improvement. I know it's herecy for many (and I may be in a minorty of 1 here), but while Starpath Frogger looks amazing for a 2600 game, I far prefer actuallly playing the Parker Brothers version

Official Frogger, The (1983) (Starpath) (PAL)_4.png

I agree to a certain point, i do like both versions though. What i don't like about this version is when you move sideways the frog moves way more than it should, sometimes resulting in cheap deaths.
