Eisengrim
I've got an ECS Computer Module and a System Changer whose plastic casing has turned yellow. Is there a safe way to restore the color of these components back to white?
walldog1
A hydrogen peroxide bath in direct sunlight can do wonders for yellowed plastics in my experience. Depending on how yellowed it is, this process will take several hours for sure. I don't know if an UV lamp could also work in place of the sun. I do look forward to any other methods that might get mentioned in this topic. Edited October 28, 2023 by walldog1 more details
Tavi
I have read that a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will also work. I did try this with my very yellowed Sears Super Video Arcade (it is pushing past yellow and into light tan) and while it did technically improve the yellowing somewhat, the amount of scrubbing effort to totally remove the heavy yellowing completely would be impractical I think. Honestly, I am likely going to try the peroxide bath system myself sometime on the Intellivision unit of mine. But if it is only a minor bit of yellowing, you might give a Magic Eraser a try. Crash7
The first reply nailed it. You have to use peroxide and the Sun. Works like a charm.
+KylJoy
Be careful with magic eraser. That is highly abrasive and will change the texture of plastic. It is basically sandpaper.
Eisengrim
Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll probably start with the hydrogen peroxide.
