Light gun possible for Odyssey 2 hardware?

I've pondered with some folks in the facebook O2 community about how the O1 had a light gun but the O2 left it out.   There are some good reasonings as to why this is, but now FF to 2023 and I just wonder if someone were to make a light gun, would the O2 even have the ability to work with the a gun.  I'm thinking NES style light gun which I believe is still pretty much the same approach the Odyssey 1 used.

 

Given how unique the O2 chipset is compared to the 2600 (no "chasing the line" for example with O2) I just wondered if the O2 could generate a white flash from an event triggered from the light gun.

 

I know, I know, many people have hard wired controllers.  However some do not have them attached making it possible.
