+DZ-Jay
I took some pictures of the games I played and my scores. I just haven't had a chance to post them. Hopefully tomorrow ... dZ.
+DZ-Jay
I keep forgetting to post these, but better late than never. I did play an assortment of games during Intellivision Day 2023. Below are some action shots of the games I played. I am now on vacation for the rest of the year, and I plan to play a bit more and catch up with some of the latest home-brews. I haven't played a new game since ... hmm ... last year! 😱 STAR STRIKE First off, I played Star Strike -- a game I played incessantly during my formative Intellivision years. On the first game, thinking myself a solid and seasoned veteran, I naïvely chose the "disc" speed. As you may imagine, this did not go well over at the Space Force command center. After that traumatic experience, I dropped all pretenses of being a hero, and played at a more reasonable skill level of "uncoordinated, rusty old fart." Only then was I able able to save our little blue planet. The survivors of our species awarded me 3,758 points, fittingly redeemable at the nearest Starbucks. Auto Racing Next off, I tried my hand at Auto Racing -- a venerable game I remember playing with my cousin many, many times, back in the day. Equipped with a copy of each steering version, I tried first the "realistic" steering (the one you steer towards the direction your car needs to turn) -- which was the one I recall having when I was a child. I thought that an uncontested single-player game would yield an easy trophy. Oh, how wrong I was. I barely made it past the first two curves! Needless to say, I did not complete the challenge. So, I switched the cartridge to the "directional" steering (the one you steer towards the side of the screen you want to turn). This proved to be a major improvement, making it a lot easier for an aging, uncoordinated doofus like myself to at least finish the circuit. Yes, that's right! It took me almost 10 minutes to complete track number 3. Lacking an opponent or any other point of comparison, I consider that to be a rather good record. 😄 B-17 Bomber It was now time to plug-in the Intellivoice and accept the call of duty from the British Royal Air Force: Time to firebomb the Axis out of Western Europe! Due to the fog of war (and the fact that I'm posting this well over two weeks after the event), I can't recall exactly how many bomb runs I made -- but I believe it was around five successful raids over northern France, bits of Poland, and of course, Germany. I also flew a successful mission to destroy strategic naval installments in the Baltic Sea. Alas, although tactically successful, these missions did come at a heavy price in personnel, as Gunner Of The Flying Fortress became a position instilling dread among airmen. More than once, we had to glide by the seat of our pants on fumes back to the safety of the English coast, as we traded fuel for bombs, in order to maximize our destructive power. Alas, our last mission into the Baltic Sea sealed the fate of me and my crew -- as I made a crucial miscalculation in the amount of fuel needed to fly back to Allied territory. After destroying the Axis armada, knowing we had no chance of returning home, and carrying one last bomb, we flew straight south to attack an airstrip commandeered by the Lüftwaffe -- one last hurrah for the Allied forces! Bomb Squad As if saving the human race from annihilation, and western civilization from the steel-toed boot of fascism wasn't enough; it was time to save the city of Intelliopolis from a fiery explosion at the hands of a psychotic madman. I'm happy to report that the city survived and the madman is securely behind bars. In gratitude, the people of Intelliopolis put on a spectacular celebration in my honor! Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (a.k.a. "Cloudy Mountain") Grabbing my quiver and trusty bow, and donning my adventurer's cap, I set off in search of treasure. I played at least three games, of decreasing skill levels, until I managed to get a bit far through the treacherous wilderness. Alas, my glory days were over, cut short by a formidable demon. Christmas Carol vs. The Ghost Of Christmas Presents As the night was getting late, and Intellivision Day was coming to a close, it was time to bring out one of my favourite games of all time. I had not played in almost an entire year, so I knew I was not going to get very far. This suited me fine, since the cartridge I have is one of those original editions that crashes upon reaching the 8th and last cavern. As expected, this turned out not to be a problem since, in spite of playing the game for over an hour, I never made it very far. I did make it past the half-way point through the Frozen Ice-Cube Caverns, as attested by my visual record of cut-scenes ... All along the way, little Carol could not resist her sweet-tooth, and attempted to pick up every single piece of candy strewn upon the cavern floor. Perfection is her way! And so the seeds of my failure were planted -- right there and then -- by my obsessive completionist tendencies. 😞 It is fitting that my ultimate death was brought upon the Candy Cove -- the graveyard were elves go to die. 😡😡 With that, the clock struck midnight*, and it was time to call it quits. So ends another exciting and utterly satisfying Intellivision Day play-session. Hope to see you all next year! -dZ. * Actually I think it was more lik3 9:30 PM, but who's counting? 3

+DZ-Jay
I played some AD&D again last night and the monsters kicked my butt once more. I will continue adventuring this week until I manage to get my treasure back from that winged beast! -dZ. 2
