Matej
Hello! My friend DoDo made almost 5 years ago Quad Pokey board upgrade(not finished pre-alpha version). For real Pokey chips exactly like Stereo (Simple or Raster Stereo) but Quad (16channels) as it was standard in Atari Arcade(inspired). He never finished it(I dont know if). He moved to another city lot of work in new job etc. Maybe Mytek, T0ri, X-Angel or Candle, Lotharek can finish it. VinsCool told me is possible in future to have upgraded 16channel RMT Tracker version (also use another Pokey modes is possible in theory like 16bit 8ch or 12ch in 8/16bit mode). So there will be way to replay songs on PokeyMAX QUAD or on this board. And have new sound for our little Atari. So 8ch better sound or 16ch so reverb, echo or such effects tricks are possible... For fans of real chips, for Atari community (backup) here is first version gerbers: https://matej.space/RETRO/POKEYSONIC_v01_RevA.zip When anybody will make new version from this please always include ("original design by DoDo"). Its all I have from old HDD. Edited November 19, 2023 by Matej

I have two of them and they both do Quad Pokey on a single chip now.
Matej
Yes PokeyMAX-Quad is great too. But some people listening real chips better real Pokey real YM, SID etc . Want PokeyMAX-quad covox too but was fpga shortage.
+mytek
Real Pokey chips are now an endangered species. I couldn't get behind such a project considering how rare they now are.

Matej
Well I have 14x pokey from 90s like 2usd each sealed from Atari factory in antistatic ic tube. Will write to PokeyMax author too for demoscene/game machine fpga quad+covox is best. But want real 4x pokey board too as got tube amp and hand made speakers for listening pokey tunes.
patjomki
If there were only a single quad pokey chip sound on atari computers.

It would really help if Altirra and/or atari800 supported quad Pokey. Perhaps @phaeron could be interested in adding PokeyMAX support to Altirra? I suppose it's "just" two more instances of the Pokey class and some additional audio mixing
patjomki
That would be great

patjomki
Yes, I know. You should've read more carefully. That's why I wrote: "... atari computers" 😀😀😀
miker
@Matej It could be great but without any present and more or less (preferably more) working software your PokeySonic isn't worth much more than electronic scrap. Will be great I am sure PokeyMAX-Quad / PokeySonic will have support tracker and player. Support in Altirra too. It's matter of time. Also games, demos. I think best benefit will be 16bit modes so 8channels (quad pokey) or 12channels (hybrid 16bit/8bit mode). This can gives new sound "ability", new sound specs to tunes. Maybe SchamaXL and SubCart will have quad too... SchamaXL author wrote it can be done. Easiest will be player. Load A (8channels rmt) and load B (8ch rmt) and play all at once easiest for start. Than altirra, tracker on PC upgraded to 16ch and native player quad modules (*. qmt for example). Also C64 guys have 4sid (12ch) also 4sid SidWizard by Hermit. This is must fot Atarians have 16channels simply 4 more than them! After that AMY recreation ... also benefit can be have 4x audio out (5din to 4x audio cinch rca) and 2x amplifier and 4x speaker each in one corner of room. This can be fun (nice effects similar like 5.1 audio albums). That can be nice too or ic mux via external switch them to stereo... Also can be useful with Rapidus in future. So 8ch stereo for music 8ch for sound fx or 2ch samples etc... Rapidus 20mhz 816 can do that plus 1mb sram and 30mb fast data ram...
