John Smith
Hi I just bought Ms Pacman 7800 from ebay but having problems - game intermittently says game failed to load (I cleaned the contacts on the cartridge) and when it does load the picture is broken (see photo) but sound is working and sounds like the game is playing. I’m based in UK and unsure if it was a PAL or NTSC version of the game. i tried using two tv’s (one very modern) and had sand problem on both. Any ideas? Sean_1970
What tradyblix said - sometimes one clean isn’t enough and you need to be sure you’re doing top and bottom contacts on the PCB. From the label I think that’s an NTSC cart. My PAL Mario Bros. has a CX part number with -50 at the end - presumably for 50Hz.
ABA180
Definitely give it a clean. I can confirm the game is compatible with 2600+ as I bought a copy (all in the USA) and it worked/works fine.
+LS650
I have the NTSC version and it works great!
Brad_from_the_80s
Ms. Pac-man totally works, although yours looks a bit rough. You're getting a bad read on the cart. Doesn't mean the cart is bad. I had a 7800 Centipede in a "sealed" box, but due to storage conditions there was some slight green corrosion on some of the contacts and it initially would not work at all. Clean very thoroughly. If alcohol doesn't work, try the Deoxit contact cleaner stuff, or maybe even 1UPCard cartridge cleaner products.
RevEng
7800 PAL games are notorious for not being labelled as such. Ms Pac Man PAL had a problem with the 2600+ factory 1.0 firmware, and didn't run. This was fixed for the 1.1 beta.
Dr Karnov
I can confirm that PAL Ms Pacman works on the new firmware
Dr Karnov
Sometimes I think you just get a duff cart. I got a perfect looking PAL Threshold, and despite cleaning it over and over it never works. Got another copy: works perfectly every time
John Smith
Thanks, I tried upgrading the system to the beta and giving the cartridge another clean. Unfortunately still the same problem - the picture is completely corrupted but the sound is there in the background.
RevEng
Really not trying to pester here, but are you sure you got both parts of the update? (i.e. the dumper portion as well) The reason I ask, is screen corruption and slow music in the background was the exact symptom of the problem under original firmware. The problem was traced back to an issue with the dumper, and fixed there.

tradyblix
It's definately a PAL cart then. 1.) You need to clean if It's failing with game load failed text after a short time trying to load. 2.) if games load for a while and then go to black screen, likely incompatible (currently) 3.) PAL games have more issues on 1.0 Edited January 9 by tradyblix
