Jaguar remnants

Hello! I was looking around the forum and other places online for Jaguar development remnants if you will. Given all of the different stuff Atari was working on and never completed in the mid-90s, I hoped to make a post detailing what is left of that development.

First off, the Panther. Everyone here knows the story, so I won't get into that. There's a lot left of it, and reading through some posts from 2008, seemingly a forum member had a shell of one of the prototypes. https://ctrl-alt-rees.com/atari-panther-cancelled-prototype-console-everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know#panther-pictures This website goes into better detail than I ever could, so I'll leave it at that. (Link to Panther post on here):

Next would be the Jaguar Duo. Again, this was in development during the Jag's lifecycle and would've featured built-in support for Jag and CD games. Now, again, a forum member has the actual PCB for the Jag Duo, and it would be theoretically (eventually) possible to recreate it. However, from what I've read, the person who has the actual mold of the Duo is incommunicado and has been for several years. That and the stalled development on the Duo in general makes it more difficult to imagine them ever being sold, even in small numbers. (Main Duo post):

Lastly, for now, is the Jag 2. This one is a lot more obscure, but there are several 20-year-old links that were luckily archived that show a completed prototype that *actually* runs Jaguar games. (https://web.archive.org/web/20060117051615/http://www.atari-explorer.com/jaguar/jaguar-2.html) and (https://web.archive.org/web/20030218091650/https://www.atarimuseum.com/videogames/jaguar/jag2.html) are the notable ones. Now, according to this forum, about 18 years ago, there were multiple prototypes out there, but I have not been able to track any down other than the previously linked ones, and there hasn't really been much documentation since 2006 about the Jag 2. There is also a technical reference manual, which seems to suggest extensive development. (Forum post):

If anyone has any corrections/additions, I would also love that! Just my two cents and what I've seen by reading through stuff the past couple of days.

To my knowledge, only two populated Jaguar II prototype boards exist and just a few bare unpopulated boards are circling about. I had one that was non-functional (that I sold to Jason Smith some 20+ years ago) and the other one belonged to Curt Vendel. Technically they were early stage developer boards code named COBWEB.

Interestingly, the one I had literally had leaves all over it and looked as if it was actually pulled from a dumpster. The Titania chip or Tom2 chip appeared to be questionable and the unit would only output a blank, black screen.

That makes sense to me. As someone who's definitely more into hardware than software, the Tom2 seemed like it was not fully fleshed out yet (giant fan/heatsink), so that checks out. Thanks for the info :) hopefully those boards are still kicking
