Ti-99 Peripheral Disk Drive Question

Hello All, I just bought this TI-99 disk drive that was sold as non-working to me. From what the previous owner tells me, they replaced the fuse to get it to turn on again, and tried to replace the original disk drive mechanism with a white one seen in the pictures. what I want to know is would it be safe to just go ahead and plug it into the back of the disk drive card in the PEB or should I maybe do something else? What I am really interested in is that I have a 2nd PEB whose disk drive card works but the floppy drive does not at all. Can the second white drive be used as a TI-99 disk drive? If not I'd like to at least try to use the black drive in the PEB and maybe fix the external drive at a later date. Also the black drive is set to "2" on the casing, does it need to be set to something else if I were to try to use it in the PEB?

Any input would be appreciated :).

If the white drive is a 300 rpm dsdd drive it can be used in the PEB as a primary dsk1 drive if you set the jumper as drive 1. If it is a 1.2 360rpm drive it will not be usable in the TI in any way unless it has the abiltity to be set as a 300 rpm drive. The Black drive if it works can be removed and used in the TI with the jumper set as drive 1, if you want it to be the dsk1 drive in the system. If you use it out of the PEB box it can still be used as dsk1, but be sure it is jumpered as dsk1.

Hello, sorry I think I forgot to upload 1 picture. Can you help me determine how I can know if the drive is a 300 RPM DSDD Drive?

Actually, from looking up the Epson SD-600 number, which I somehow didn't see the first time, I assumed the bottom of the drive would state the model, this looks to be a 1.2MB drive? I think it's supposed to not be a good idea to use those with a PEB no?

Gonna be a right pain in the ass, and probably not work.  Supposedly, these drives and shift between 300rpm and 360rpm, but I have found many of them do not, no matter how I try to cajole them.  So, no, I would not recommend using this drive.  You will want a 350k drive, DS/DD, at the highest capacity (which requires a capable card, like a Myarc, CorComp, or BwG.)
