Heywood Jablowme
I’m making a 2600 portable using Ben Heck’s walkthrough. He says that the only part of the system that runs off of 7-9v instead of 5v is the color adjustment pot. Can anyone explain why that is? Could I run it at 5v and adjust the pot to compensate? Gee, running EVERYTHING at 5V and re-adjusting the pot to compensate sure sounds like a solid idea. But then, if Ben Heck was smart enough to design his own 2600 portable and author a walkthrough for it, he was probably smart enough to give your idea consideration, too. The fact that he didn't do it suggests there was some technical issue he was aware of, that you are not, which made the idea infeasible. But what that technical issue may be, I have no idea. If you can get his email address, you might want to ask him. I'm positive he would have the best answer for you. -Ben
Heywood Jablowme
Thanks for the response. My thoughts are that he either didn’t want to adjust the pot since it’s preset, or as you said it just doesn’t work right using 5v. I didn’t consider trying to email him, I’ll give that a shot.
