Do you have every kind of 2600?

I was going through my mess of consoles and realized that I have a bunch of 2600s. I've got a heavy sixer, light sixer, 4-switch Woody, Vader, and Junior. Is there anyone who has all these plus the Sears consoles? Do you have one you use more than the others? I'm using the heavy sixer the most right now.

Besides prototype/unreleased stuff like the Atari 2700 and Kee Programmable Game System, I *think* the only ones I'm missing are the Atari 2800, the Irish all-black 2600jr., and, weirdly, a Sears Light Sixer.

Otherwise, I think I've got every version, and then some:

Atari 6-switch - heavy

Sears 6-switch - heavy

Atari 6-switch - light

Atari 4-switch woodgrain

Sears 4-switch

Atari 4-switch - black

Sears Video Arcade II

Atari 2600jr. - small rainbow

Atari 2600jr. - large rainbow

Coleco Gemini

Columbia Home Arcade

Expansion Module #1 (for Colecovision)

System Changer (for Intellivision II)

VCS Adapter (for Atari 5200)

For grins and giggles, I've also got a TV Boy and an Edu-Games 2600 (an Argentinian 2600jr. clone).

If I had to pick a favorite, my gut tells me Atari Light Sixer. But, variety is the spice of life! 😁

Atari heavy 6

Atari light 6

Atari 4-switch Vader

Atari Jr. small rainbow

Atari Jr. Long rainbow

Atari Jr. with 64 games built in (from Argentina, I think)

Atari 5200 VCS adapter

Sears Telegames  6

Sears Video Arcade II

Coleco Gemini

Colecovision/Atari2600 adapter module

Intellivision/Atari2600 adapter module

...and multiple copies of each.  Just in case.

I used to own a lot more than I do now but I have given away or sold many over the years.  Currently I have a Sears Six Switch, an A/V modded Vader, two Jrs, and three 7800s.  Every time that I see an Atari out in the wild I have to remind myself that I really don't need any more.  This is why I've forced myself from getting a 2600+ or Retron too.  Now I just need to start weeding out my Atari Computer collection.

But unlike the CX55 you brought up, the 7800 can play non-2600 games. Which makes it definitionally not a 2600.

Oh, sure. Not arguing that point.  But it does have an essentially full set of 2600 hardware in it - and using 2600 cartridges in it is functionally-equivalent to using a CX-55 in a 5200.  Wouldn't go so far as to say it's the same, though.

Granted, the CX-55 is pretty much a standalone 2600; the 7800 is more like the 2600's split-personality cousin.

Functionally equivalent, yes. The difference with the 2600 adapters for Atari 5200, Coleco, and Intellivision is, as you said, that they are standalone 2600 systems that use their host consoles as RF and power pass-throughs, cutting off compatibility with native software and effectively transforming them into elaborate 2600 systems.

Unlike the 2600 hardware built into the 7800, they don't augment their host systems' functionality; they replace it completely.

(Tangentially, the Intellivision System Changer is an interesting case because, besides power and RF, it also interacts with the Intellivision II's controllers. The System Changer has its own controller jacks, but you can also use the Intellivision II controllers from the console instead, which is pretty funky.)

Totally agreed, and that's why the 7800 wasn't made as a serious recommendation to begin with ;)

My collection pales in comparison: 6-switch, 4-switch, Junior, Gemini, and the 2600+. I had some duplicates, but those were sold decades ago when I moved cross-country.

I also have a Flashback (version 2, I think) and the Joystick-shaped PNP system from the early-2000s.
