I wouldn't call them clones, just the same/similiar genre of games. Might as well ask about all Platform games why so many Super Mario Bros. clones have been made, or for FPS games why so many DOOM clones have been made...it's a popular genre, one of my favorites, and something similiar can be found on any console made after '93 just about.
