How do you pronounce Jaleco's EXERION? Also, how do you pronounce Jaleco?

Recommended Posts

I've been saying the name of this game as Ex-ear-ion. Is that right?

Also since we're here, what's the correct pronunciation for game company Jaleco? I've always said it as Jal-eh-co, like a calico cat. But is it Jal-E-co, like Coleco?

Other than Ex-EER-ee-on, what else could it be?  That one seems pretty cut and dried to me.

As for Jaleco, I'm pretty sure that name originated as a portmanteau for Japan Leisure Company, so for many years I've been saying Ja-LEE-co since that would seem to be more consistent with the origin of the name.

But it seems like most people say JA-luh-co, which is how I remember saying it as a kid.  And, I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember firing up a console game semi-recently where the company's logo came on the screen and a voice said the name, with the pronunciation being more in line with JA-luh-co.  I have no idea what game it was... possibly something on Wii?  Not sure.

Every time I think something is a cut and dry pronunciation, I hear someone in the industry say it and I was way off. 😂

Japanese is a phonetic language, so ジャレコ and エクセリオン are both pronounced exactly as they are written.

On a scale of 4 to 12,  7 being the highest,  I give your answer a 5.
